MANGALURU, OCTOBER 16: An FIR has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Fr. Cyprian Pinto, a priest at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Valencia, Mangaluru, over allegations of sexually abusing minor boys. His arrest is expected soon, according to reports.

The case was registered at Pandeshwar Police Station following a complaint by Mysuru-based NGO Odanadi. After the organisation approached the Police Commissioner, police reportedly contacted the alleged victims and encouraged them to lodge a formal complaint.

According to the complaint, the priest allegedly approached a minor boy who regularly visited the church in the evenings, offered him chocolates and made affectionate remarks before taking him into a room on the church premises. The complaint alleges that the boy was subjected to inappropriate physical contact and repeated sexual harassment.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred on August 14 at around 6.30 pm, when the boy visited the church for prayer. The complaint further states that the boy later confided in his friends, who allegedly disclosed that they had experienced similar conduct.

The boy subsequently informed his parents, who reportedly brought the matter to the attention of the Bishop heading the Mangaluru Christian diocese. A police complaint was filed subsequently, leading to the registration of the FIR under the POCSO Act.
